really tiredJust trying to sort through my options...
For chapter 5 I have some ideas. The girls reading this fic are eager to see some Jackie/Hyde interactions but I have decided that this is no longer really about them. It is more about the relationships of their kids and their friends. I guess it is That 70s Show redux. Or more accurately--That 90s Show, lol. (God I hope they never make that, let's not relive it, please). The whole Jackie/Hyde thing is more of a sub-plot now. But I know I have to add something for the shippers out there.
So my first idea was to have the dinner out with the parents and the three kids so that the girls can get to know Jackie (since she might just be their step-mom) and Steve can get to know Hyde better. With the way Kelly was acting in C4 it should be a complete disaster. Karrie will be willing, if not excited to go, but Kelly and Steve will be less then thrilled. But I also need to show Steve trying to be okay with everything. He has to grow. I don't want him to start being a male Kelly, because he isn't. He is just confused and will do the right thing.
I still need to introduce Betsy into the picture, too. So I had this other idea to sort of set up this weird love triangle between Steve, Betsy and Kate. Betsy will be the only one that thinks there is a triangle. Kate and Steve maintain they are just friends, but that will cause tension. Maybe that will work better after we see how Steve and Betsy are together. No?
So, how to show them together. Maybe have him talk to her about the whole mess when he finds out he is having dinner with the family. Let's see if she can comfort him or does he have to go to Kate for some understanding? Betsy should understand. Her parents aren't together. Kelso and Brook had her when they were young (Kelso was 19 and she was 20 or 21--they say in one episode that the gang was sophomores when she was a senior so she is at least 2 years older and I can't remember if Kelso was 19 or 20. I guess it doesn't matter. And yes I know Kelso is a year older then the rest). But they never really had a relationship. She also had a step-mom and step-dad and has siblings on both sides (just made up that part about the step-dad and other siblings). She should really understand what is going on but I think I will make her be distant about it. He'll then have to go back to Kate for comfort and that can set up the whole triangle if Betsy finds out he has been running to Kate. (I swear there is nothing going on between them, yet).
I think I will probably end up going with my first idea of the dinner. Just get that out of the way. Afterwards, Steve can go to Betsy and talk to her about how upset it made him and the rest will come later. Sound good? Don't really care, that is probably what I will do.
